You may have a wealth of knowledge of the global financial markets but be time poor; you may have a family trust to administer and want sound, expert advice on the best ways to invest or you may be a third party referrer needing an expert, experienced asset management company for your private clients. Whatever your background, profession or level of expertise, we’re here to help you.
In a nutshell, you delegate day-to-day responsibility for your investment portfolio to us.
Every new private client relationship begins with a discussion about your attitude towards risk, your tax position, time horizon, personal circumstances, requirement for income and any professional areas of interest and conflict. We will also discuss asset classes, geographies, sectors and investment themes. This allows us to offer each client a completely tailored investment portfolio.
Our client base includes highly successful business professionals, many of whom work in the financial industry, as well as second and third generation family members and trustees. We can accommodate clients looking for both adventurous and cautious portfolios, onshore and offshore.
Our entry level investment is £250,000 although we occasionally make exceptions and will consider accepting a lower initial investment if there is an intention to add to the portfolio.
No. We have no ‘own brand’ investment funds to sell, allowing us to make decisions based on the best possible investments for your portfolio.
As part of the Retail Distribution Review (implemented on 31st December 2012) the Financial Conduct Authority changed what is meant by ‘independent’ advice and introduced the concept of ‘restricted’ advice. In order for advice to be ‘independent’ it must involve the selection of an investment that is unbiased, unrestricted and looks at a broad spectrum of providers. In addition, it must cover a wide range of what the regulator terms ‘packaged products’, such as pensions, life insurance policies, investment trusts and unit trusts. Advice that does not meet all of these criteria is automatically ‘restricted’. Wilson King does not advise on the full range of packaged products and is therefore classified as ‘restricted’.
Yes. We produce quarterly reports which detail the progress of your portfolio and we are always happy to provide ad hoc updates on our views on the markets. Each client is encouraged to meet with us at least annually to review their portfolios. There are no restrictions on the number of meetings, telephone calls or emails.
We work closely with our clients to construct portfolios they are happy with. At the most conservative end of our investment strategies we invest in core multi-manager fund of funds, which might include absolute return funds, and we diversify the portfolios with investments in different asset classes. If you are concerned about a market downturn read our ‘Six Investing Basics’ article.
We invest in the UK and abroad. We often complement direct investments in the UK with investments in funds which target either specific sectors and themes or specific countries and continents. We have a global outlook and like to take advantage of the higher growth rates of the emerging markets.
We do not charge for the first meeting, or, indeed, subsequent ones. Should you wish to become a client of Wilson King, our fee structure is simple: 1% annual management fee charged quarterly in arrears, up to 1% dealing costs and a custody fee charged monthly based on the value of your portfolio.
